What types of film do you develop?

We process all standard and specialty film formats with precision:

Standard Films:
  • 35mm and 120 color film (C-41 process)
  • 35mm and 120 black & white film
  • Disposable cameras (color and B&W)
  • Slide film (E-6 process)

Specialty Films:
  • ECN-2 motion picture film (35mm only)

Do you develop disposable cameras?

Yes, we process all disposable camera types. These cameras often capture wonderfully spontaneous moments with their unique exposure characteristics.

When placing your order, select "Some Color Disposable Camera" or "Some BW Disposable Camera" based on your camera type.

For more precise record-keeping, you can search our comprehensive film database by specific brand (such as Fujifilm QuickSnap or Kodak FunSaver) to maintain detailed records of your photography work.

Note: Disposable cameras often create authentic, candid images due to their fixed settings and diverse shooting conditions.

Ready to process your disposables? Visit our disposable camera development page to get started.

What about specialty films like ECN-2?

We offer ECN-2 motion picture film development as part of our specialty processing services.

About ECN-2: This process develops motion picture film stocks like Kodak Vision3, valued by photographers for their distinctive color characteristics and cinematic aesthetic.

Our Process: We collaborate with Kodak Motion Picture Film Lab in Atlanta for specialized ECN-2 processing, then handle scanning at our facility using professional-grade equipment.

Processing Details: ECN-2 development requires approximately 3 weeks and includes an additional $15 per roll fee to cover the specialized handling requirements.

What do your services cost?

Our pricing reflects our commitment to quality processing while remaining accessible to photographers at every level.

Development & Scanning starts at $17.99 per roll and varies based on:
  • Film type (C-41, E-6, B&W, ECN-2)
  • Scan quality (Standard 2K, 4K, or Pro Scans)
  • Additional services (prints, sleeving, rush processing)

Membership Benefits: Members save 20-40% on services with annual plans starting at $199.99/year.

For precise pricing tailored to your specific needs, visit our pricing page or use our interactive price calculator for instant cost estimates.

Scanning & Digital Delivery

What scanning options do you offer?

We provide three scanning tiers designed to match different usage requirements and budgets:

Standard 2K Scans - Optimized for digital sharing and smaller prints
  • 2000px on the short side (2000x3000 for 35mm)
  • High-quality JPEG files
  • TIFF files available as upgrade option
  • Suitable for most everyday applications

Standard 4K Scans - Designed for larger prints and professional applications
  • Approximately 4492x6775px resolution for 35mm
  • 16-bit TIFF files included (typically 100MB+ each)
  • Enhanced detail retention and editing flexibility
  • Supports enlargements up to 16x24"

Pro Scans - Our premium service featuring custom color correction
  • 4K resolution with expert color correction
  • Individual attention to each frame
  • Collaborative revision process
  • Chosen by professional photographers

Ready to order? Choose your scanning options on our film development & scanning page.

Which scanning option is right for me?

Your choice depends on how you intend to use your images:

Standard 2K is appropriate if you:
  • Share photos primarily on social media
  • Make prints 8x10" and smaller
  • Prefer the most cost-effective option
  • Want flexibility to upgrade to TIFF files later

Standard 4K works best if you:
  • Make large prints (11x14" and bigger)
  • Do extensive photo editing
  • Require maximum detail preservation
  • Shoot for client work or portfolios

Pro Scans are ideal if you:
  • Need custom color matching
  • Have specific aesthetic requirements
  • Shoot professionally or for exhibitions
  • Want collaborative editing involvement

If you're unsure: Standard 2K provides excellent results for most applications, with the option to upgrade resolution later if needed.

What makes Pro Scans special?

Pro Scans represent our highest level of service, applying fine art scanning principles to your film:

Custom Color Work:
  • Individual attention to each frame's color and tone
  • Custom corrections based on your artistic vision
  • Hand-adjusted processing without generic presets

For Pro Scans inquiries, contact us at proscans@nicefilmclub.com

What's your approach to scanning?

Our scanning approach focuses on providing you with the strongest foundation for your creative work:

Technical Excellence: Clean, sharp scans with accurate color reproduction
Data Preservation: We maintain shadow and highlight detail to give you full control during editing
Color Accuracy: Proper color correction that reflects your film's unique characteristics
Creative Flexibility: Scans that provide room for interpretation and personal editing style
Professional Value: High-quality results at accessible pricing

Our Professional Equipment:
  • Scanning: Noritsu HS-1800 scanners with daily calibration and color accuracy checks
  • Development: Fleet of well-maintained Noritsu V50 roller transport machines
  • Chemistry: Fuji chemistry for color processing, Kodak Tmax Developer for black & white

We believe your scans should serve as a faithful starting point for your creative process. Whether you prefer them as-delivered or enjoy extensive post-processing, we provide the optimal foundation for your vision.

Do you scan half-frame cameras?

Yes, we process half-frame cameras, which create distinctive intimate images with their unique format.

Compatible cameras: Any half-frame model including Olympus Pen series, Canon Demi, Ricoh Auto Half, and others.

Additional cost: $7.99 per roll for members, $9.99 per roll for non-members

Pricing rationale: Half-frame cameras produce twice the number of exposures per roll (72 instead of 36), requiring double the scanning time and individual attention for each smaller frame.

Results: Properly exposed scans that capture the unique aesthetic of half-frame photography, well-suited for photo books, social media, or artistic projects.

Can you scan the film borders?

Film border inclusion varies by format due to technical limitations:

35mm Film: Our Noritsu HS-1800 scanner's scanning area doesn't extend wide enough to capture full film rebates (edge text and markings).

120 Film: Yes, we can overscan 120 film to include black borders around your images, providing the classic medium format aesthetic.

Requesting borders: When creating your order, note "please overscan for borders" in the film notes section.

How do I get my scanned images?

Your scans are delivered through our custom-built platform designed specifically for film photographers - this is what sets us apart from other labs:

Professional Film Photography Platform: Unlike basic online galleries, your scans are hosted on a sophisticated platform we built from the ground up to service film photography workflows.

Intelligent Organization & Search:
  • Scans are automatically tagged and easily searchable
  • Organized by order, film roll, ISO, and native process
  • Find any specific image instantly with advanced filtering

Seamless Workflow Integration:
  • Order prints directly from your account with one click
  • Generate quick and easy download links for sharing
  • Mobile-optimized viewing experience
  • Full-resolution files ready for editing or printing

Professional Sharing Tools: Create secure links to share your work with clients, friends, or on social media without requiring account creation.

Notifications: You'll receive both email and SMS alerts when your scans are ready to view on the platform.

Why This Matters: This comprehensive platform creates a completely seamless experience from scan delivery to print ordering - something no other lab offers. It's designed by film photographers, for film photographers.

How long do you store my scans?

Storage duration varies based on your membership status:

Members: Scans remain accessible on our custom platform throughout your active membership period, which can extend for years. This means your entire photo library stays searchable, organized, and available for instant print ordering - we believe your photography should always be accessible when you need it.

Non-Members: Scans are stored for 30 days from the upload date on our platform, providing sufficient time for download and backup.

Platform Benefits During Storage:
  • Advanced search and filtering capabilities remain active
  • All organizational features (by roll, ISO, process) stay functional
  • Direct print ordering available throughout storage period
  • Professional sharing tools accessible anytime

Important note: Non-members should download images promptly. We send reminder notifications as your 30-day access window approaches.

Membership consideration: Regular film photographers find membership valuable not only for cost savings but also for indefinite access to their complete, organized photo library on our custom platform.

Ready to upgrade your film photography experience? Compare membership benefits on our pricing page or start your membership today for unlimited scan storage and more.

Do you offer push/pull processing?

Yes, we offer push and pull processing for both 35mm and 120 film to achieve specific creative and technical effects:

What is Push/Pull Processing?
  • Push Processing: Overdeveloping film shot at higher ISO than its box speed to compensate for underexposure
  • Pull Processing: Underdeveloping film shot at lower ISO than its box speed to prevent overexposure

How to Request: When creating your order, select "Advanced Film Options" to specify push/pull requirements for each roll, including the number of stops and specific instructions.

Common Applications:
  • Low light photography without flash
  • Intentional over/underexposure for artistic effect
  • Compensating for expired film
  • Achieving specific grain characteristics

Technical Expertise: Our experienced technicians adjust development times and temperatures using our professional Noritsu V50 machines to achieve optimal results for your creative vision.

Pricing: Additional $2.99 per roll for all push/pull processing services.

Printing

What printing options do you offer?

We provide three distinct printing pathways to meet different needs and preferences:

Traditional Darkroom Enlargements
Professional hand enlargements made in our chemical darkroom using traditional photographic processes:

Digital Giclee Prints
High-quality digital prints made from your scans through your online account:
  • Create an account at nicefilmclub.com
  • Upload your digital files or use existing scans from previous orders
  • Select from various sizes and paper options
  • Professional archival inkjet printing

4x6 Print Add-On with Development Orders
Convenient option to add traditional photographic prints when ordering development & scanning:
  • Non-Members: $11.99 per roll
  • Members: $9.99 per roll
  • Standard 4x6 prints from every frame on your roll
  • Ships together with your completed order

Which Option is Right for Me?
  • Darkroom Prints: Best for fine art, exhibitions, or when you want the authentic analog printing process
  • Digital Prints: Ideal for custom sizes, quick turnaround, or when you want to print from edited files
  • 4x6 Add-On: Perfect for proof sets, sharing, or when you want prints of an entire roll

Do you offer darkroom prints (hand enlargements)?

Yes! We operate a full traditional darkroom offering professional hand enlargements - a service that sets us apart from most labs that only offer digital printing.

What are Darkroom Prints?
Traditional hand enlargements made directly from your negatives using time-tested chemical processes. Your negatives are projected through an enlarger onto photographic paper, then developed in chemical baths - the same process used by master photographers for over a century.

Our Darkroom Services:
Why Choose Darkroom Enlargements?
  • Authentic analog process: No digital interpretation - direct negative-to-paper transfer
  • Unique aesthetic: Natural grain structure and tonal transitions impossible to replicate digitally
  • Archival quality: Traditional photographic prints have proven longevity
  • Hand craftsmanship: Each print receives individual attention with custom burning and dodging
  • Fine art standard: Preferred by galleries, collectors, and serious photographers

Perfect for: Fine art photography, gallery exhibitions, portfolio work, collectors, or anyone seeking the pure analog printing experience that complements their film photography journey.

Professional Advantage: While most labs have abandoned traditional darkrooms, we maintain this craft as an essential service for serious film photographers who demand authentic analog printing.

How much do large format digital prints cost?

Large format digital print pricing varies by size and membership status:

Base Pricing (Non-Members):
  • 4x6 prints: $0.61 each
  • Up to 16" longest side: $24.99
  • Up to 21" longest side: $39.99
  • Up to 29" longest side: $59.99
  • Up to 36" longest side: $79.99

What is the difference between darkroom and digital prints?

Each printing method offers distinct characteristics and advantages:

Traditional Darkroom Prints:
  • Process: Made directly from your negatives using chemical processes
  • Aesthetic: Authentic analog look with natural grain and tonal transitions
  • Longevity: Traditional photographic prints have proven archival stability
  • Customization: Hand-burned and dodged for optimal exposure
  • Best for: Fine art, exhibitions, collectors, or when you want the pure analog experience

Digital Giclee Prints:
  • Process: Made from digital scans using professional inkjet printing
  • Flexibility: Can be made from edited files or cropped images
  • Size Options: Wide range of sizes including very large formats
  • Speed: Generally faster turnaround times
  • Consistency: Precise color reproduction and repeatability
  • Best for: Custom sizes, edited images, quick turnaround, or high-volume printing

Quality Comparison: Both methods produce excellent results. The choice depends on your aesthetic preferences, intended use, and whether you want the traditional analog printing experience or the flexibility of digital workflows.

Recommendation: Try both methods to see which aesthetic you prefer - many photographers use different printing methods for different projects.

What if I don't use all my credits?

Unused credits roll over indefinitely throughout your active membership period.

Credit Banking:
  • Credits remain valid while membership is active
  • Accumulate reserves during slower shooting periods
  • Apply stored credits during high-volume projects

Strategic Usage: Many members build credit reserves before trips or workshops, then process multiple rolls efficiently upon return.

Seasonal Example: Winter shooting slowdowns allow credit accumulation for spring workshop processing or summer travel film development.

This system provides flexibility while ensuring you receive maximum value from your membership investment.

Interested in this flexibility? See all membership options and start building your credit reserves on our pricing page.

What happens if I cancel my membership?

We understand that circumstances change. Here's exactly what happens when your membership expires:

Immediate Changes Upon Expiration:
  • Scan Deletion: Any scans uploaded more than 30 days ago are immediately deleted from our servers
  • Credit Forfeiture: All unused development and scanning credits are forfeited and cannot be recovered
  • Recent Scans: Scans uploaded within the last 30 days remain accessible under standard non-member terms (30-day retention)

IMPORTANT - Action Required Before Cancelling:
  • Download older scans: Save any scans older than 30 days to your device before your membership expires
  • Use remaining credits: Process any remaining film to maximize your membership value
  • Check upload dates: Review your account to identify which scans will be deleted

Scan Recovery Option:
If you need to recover deleted scans after cancellation, we offer a recovery service for $5.00 per roll. This fee covers the technical costs of retrieving archived data from our backup systems.

Rejoining: You can reactivate membership anytime. However, any previously deleted scans will require the recovery fee to restore.

Before you decide: Review all the benefits and savings you'll miss on our pricing page, or consider whether a different membership tier might better match your current needs.
